How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost in Baltimore? (2026 Guide)

When someone asks me what a kitchen remodel costs, my honest first answer is: "Depends what you mean by remodel." To one person it means painted cabinets and a new backsplash. To another it means knocking out a wall. So here's how it breaks down for Baltimore homes in 2026.
Kitchen remodel costs in Baltimore
| Type of project | What it usually includes | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Cosmetic refresh | Painted cabinets, new countertops, backsplash, hardware, lighting | Around $15,000 |
| Mid-range remodel | New cabinets, countertops, and appliances, same layout | Around $35,000 |
| Full gut remodel | New layout, plumbing and electrical changes, everything new | $60,000 and up |
For a typical Baltimore area kitchen of 100 to 200 square feet, most mid-range projects land somewhere between $25,000 and $55,000.
Is $10,000 enough to redo a kitchen?
For a full remodel, no. Not with new cabinets. But $10,000 can still change how your kitchen looks and feels, if you spend it in the right places:
- Paint the cabinets instead of replacing them, if the boxes are solid
- New hardware and lighting
- A new backsplash
- Fresh paint on the walls and trim
Done right, painted cabinets look like a different kitchen. The key word is "right": proper cleaning, sanding, priming, and a durable finish. Cabinet painting done fast with wall paint peels in a year. We cover this in more detail on our cabinet painting page.
What eats the budget in a kitchen remodel
Cabinets. New cabinets are usually the single biggest line item. That's why painting solid existing cabinets saves so much.
Changing the layout. Moving the sink, stove, or a wall means moving plumbing, gas, and electrical. That's where a $35,000 project becomes a $60,000 one.
Countertops. The material matters, and so does the size and number of cutouts.
Appliances. Easy to overlook when you're budgeting. Decide early whether you're keeping yours.
Older homes. In a lot of Baltimore houses, especially rowhouses in Canton, Locust Point and Hampden, opening up a kitchen means bringing old wiring up to code. Better to plan for it than be surprised by it.
Permits. Plumbing, electrical, and structural changes need them. We handle them.
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
A cosmetic refresh can be done in a week or two. A mid-range remodel with new cabinets usually runs several weeks, depending on when the cabinets and countertops arrive, because countertops can only be measured once the cabinets are in. A full gut with layout changes takes longer. If you're redoing more than one room, our whole-home remodeling team can schedule it all together. Before we start, you get a schedule, so you can plan how to cook and live around it.
Big box store or local contractor?
A lot of people price kitchens at the big home improvement stores first. That's fine. Just make sure you're comparing the same thing: who's installing, whether demo, permits, plumbing, and electrical are included, and who you call when something's off. A low cabinet price isn't the same as a low finished-kitchen price.
And whoever you hire, read my checklist for choosing a contractor first. It comes from a true story about a quote that ended up $6,000 over budget.
How we price your kitchen
I come out, measure, listen to how you use your kitchen, and give you options at a few price points: what a refresh gets you, what a mid-range remodel gets you. You get it in writing. You decide. No pressure.
If you're on the fence about whether you even need a full remodel, here are the signs your kitchen needs more than a refresh.
